Proud to be an American

With all the things that have been happening in our country this past year, I wonder what the future will bring.

I had the honor of driving the Staples-Motley-Verndale High School swim team to their meets in Holdingford and Fosston this fall. At each of the events (and I’m told this is done at all swim team events) while in the pool all the girls stand together with their teams facing the flag and sing together our national anthem.

It was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. 

At Holdingford after honoring America, a young lady from Holdingford who noticed my Marine jacket got out of the pool, came over to me and thanked me for my service to our country.

WOW! I still get emotional just thinking about it. 

These are the things that make our country great. Don’t let the example of a few of our sports figures take that away. It’s never okay not to stand for our national anthem.

Thank you to all the swim teams and to all who honor our flag by standing during our national anthem.
