Support reading in ‘I Love to Read’ month

I love to Read month is upon us and boy, did our committee of teachers and staff plan some fun events for students! 

During the month of February, we really like to ramp up our reading and get books into the hands of all students. 

This year, our Staples-Motley Elementary Book Fair theme was “Camping Out With Good Books,” and ran from Feb. 2-7. We had many visitors and sold a lot of great books. Thank you to those who were able to stop by and shop. 

Each classroom received a Book Bingo card and when a classroom gets a BINGO, every student in the class will get a brand new book. Thanks to National Joint Powers Alliance for making this possible and for their support for our schools. 

We also have mystery readers each week, where classes try to guess who it might be. Winning guesses go into a drawing for a special prize. Our entire school will try this month to read a cumulative 2,000 minutes, equaling about 400 minutes of reading for each child in our school. I think they can do it! 

We are hoping parents and grandparents, aunts, uncles, and special friends will encourage our students to READ, READ, READ! If students reach their goal of 2,000 minutes, they get to watch their teachers and principal play a game of Hungry Human Hippos at the end of the month. The teachers are hungry and ready to play, so we hope the kids are going to read like crazy. 

Often, we tell students the more they read, the better they read. So thank you for supporting the kids you know become the best readers they can be.
