CANDIDATE FILING NOTICE

CASS COUNTY, MN

NOTICE OF OFFICES TO BE VOTED FOR AT THE STATE GENERAL ELECTION

The following federal, state, judicial and county offices will be voted for at the state general election to be held Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The filing period for these offices begins at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2016, and ends at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Note: Filing offices will be closed May 30, 2016 in observance of Memorial Day.

The place of filing for federal offices is the Office of the Secretary of State, State Office Building, Room 180, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, St. Paul, MN 55155-1299. The place of filing for state offices (including judicial offices) is the Office of the Secretary of State or the office of the county auditor of the county in which the candidate resides. The place of filing for Cass County offices is the Office of the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer, Cass County Courthouse, 303 Minnesota Avenue W, P.O. Box 3000, Walker, MN 56484-3000.  

Candidates may file in person or by mail during the filing period. Candidates who will be absent from the state during the filing period and meet the requirements of Minnesota Statutes 204B.09, subdivision 1a, may arrange to file during the seven days immediately preceding the candidate’s absence from the state.

Candidates for the following offices must file at the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State:

FEDERAL OFFICES–Ten Presidential Electors*, and One United States Representative for District 8. (*On or before August 23, 2016 for non-major party elector candidates, or August 29, 2016 for major party elector candidates, presidential electors are nominated as governed by Minnesota Statutes 204B.09, Subd. 1 (c) and 208.03.)

Candidates for the following offices must file either at the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State or the office of the county auditor of the county in which they reside:

STATE LEGISLATIVE OFFICES - One State Senator for each of Districts 5 and 9, One State Representative for each of Districts 5A, 5B and 9A.

JUDICIAL OFFICES - One Supreme Court Associate Justice seat 6 (Hudson); nine seats Court of Appeals - seat 5 (Bjorkman), seat 8 (Reilly), seat 11 (Larkin), seat 13 (6th Congressional District) (Peterson), seat 14 (8th Congressional District) (Stauber), seat 16 (Reyes), seat 17 (Johnson), seat 18 (Schellhas), seat 19 (Connolly); six seats Ninth District Court Judge--seat 2 (Maus), seat 8 (Schieferdecker), seat 16 (Benshoof), seat 17 (Rasmussen), seat 20 (Dixon), and seat 23 (DeMay).

Candidates for the following offices must file at the Office of the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer.

COUNTY OFFICES - One County Commissioner four year term for each of the following districts: Districts 2, 3 and 5; one Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor 4 year term for each of nominating Districts 2, 3 and 4.
