Notice of Public Hearing on Proposed Assessments
Notice is hereby given that the Staples City Council will meet at 7 p.m. on November 24, 2020 at 122 6th St NE to consider and possibly adopt assessments for non-payment of utility charges against property.
The proposed assessment roll is on file for public inspection at the city clerk’s office. Written or oral objections will be considered at the meeting.

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order with Longbella, Winkels, Frisk, Freeman and Anderson present (comprising a quorum). Also attending: Supt. Tappe; Principals Johnson and Schmidt; Business Services Herdegen and Regan; several staff and students; Dawn Timbs, Staples World reporter and Recording Secretary, Madson.
Motion by Longbella, seconded by Frisk approve the addition of agenda item #20 and the deletion of items 9a and 16. MC
Motion by Frisk, seconded by Longbella, to adopt the agenda. MC
Chair Winkels recognized the public and thanked everyone for attending.
ICS Update – Mike Hubbard gave a brief update on facility planning and introduced the team of JLG Architects. Monthly updates will be given during the upcoming Board meetings.
Consent Agenda:
Motion by Frisk, seconded by Winkels, to approve the Consent Agenda. MC
Donations and Grants
Motion by Anderson, seconded by Frisk, to approve the Resolution for Acceptance of Donations and Grants in the amount of $8,774.30. MC
Motion by Longbella, seconded by Anderson to accept the receipt of donated items. MC
Finance Items
Motion by Longbella, seconded by Anderson, to authorize payment of the vouchers. MC
Motion by Frisk, seconded by Winkels, to approve the Proposed Levy; payable 2021; for the maximum amount. MC
Motion by Freeman, seconded by Longbella, to approve the MOU for Salary Schedule B. MC
Motion by Frisk, seconded by Winkels to approve the credit reimbursement request from Nathan Thelen. MC
Policy and Other
Motion by Frisk, seconded by Winkels, to approve Policy #522 Title IX Sex Nondiscrimination Policy, Grievance Procedure and Process with MSBA updates to meet federal regulations. MC
Motion by Freeman, seconded by Longbella, to authorize Shane Tappe to act as the Identified Official with Authority (IOwA) and Bonnie Madson to act as the IOwA to add and remove names only for Staples-Motley School District 2170-01 MC

Principals’ written reports were available.
Superintendent Tappe gave an update on enrollment, Distance Learning numbers, learning environments for social distancing by using outside space as much as possible.
SMEA - Ms. Schneider indicated students and staff are all glad to be back in the classroom following the six month break from school due to COVID-19.
Activities Director - Mr. Lee reported that Volleyball will begin Oct. 8 and Football will begin Oct. 9.
