2016 SMHS Alumni Basketball Tournament
The schedule for the 2016 Cardinal Basketball Alumni Tournament has been released, with eight men’s teams and four women’s teams signed up to play.
Pool play will take place Friday, July 15, starting at 6 p.m. Each team will play three “half-games” for seeding.
For the women’s tournament, the four teams are 2014 Soup-A-Stars, 2013 Team Korea, 2016 Baby Cardinals, and Early 2000’s Ponytail Express.
Men’s teams in Pool A are 2016 Cardinal Varsity, 80s and 90s All-Stars, 2010 Chosen Ones and 2007 Huck ‘N’ Chuck. Teams in Pool B are 2008 Free Agent Special, 2004 The Second Coming, 2002 TLC and 2000 Dairy Queen.
The basketball boosters will run a concession area with drinks and snacks available.
Admission price has been changed from $5 for the tournament to “your own good-hearted donation.”
Games Friday will be 22 minutes long with running time that stops the last two minutes. Each team gets two 1-minute timeouts per game.
Teams will be seeded by their Friday night records, then Saturday the tournament begins. Saturday full games will be played; two 20 minute running time halves, clock stops last two minutes. All teams are guaranteed two games Saturday.
One court will be left open on Saturday for a few hours for various games and contests.
Saturday games will run from 8 or 9 a.m. until 3 or 4 p.m.
The older class year of the two teams playing is spotted points based on the year difference. Teams don’t have to accept this gift, but it is common in alumni tournaments.
