Baseball bats come alive for doubleheader

Skeesick gets win on the mound

The Staples Motley baseball team won a doubleheader at Crosby Ironton on April 26, 12-5 and 7-3. On April 29, the Cardinals lost two against Osakis, 13-2 and 10-0.

In the first game against C-I, the Cardinals took an early two run lead and were never threatened. Reid Busker pitched a complete seven inning game. “Our bats finally came alive and we were able to ply solid defense,” said Coach Mitch Anderson.

Brady Smith had three hits, two RBI, scored four runs and had three stolen bases. Gavin Smith had three hits and two runs. Blake Gerard had two hits and scored twice.

In game two, Staples Motley jumped out to a 5-1 lead and held on to win 7-4 as Trey Skeesick pitched a complete game for the win. Skeesick also had two hits and scored twice.

Against Osakis, the Cardinals fell behind early and struggled to come back. “We had a tough time putting the ball in open spaces,” said Anderson.

In game one, Skeesick had one hit, one run and one RBI. Brady Smith pitched six innings.

In game two, Blake Gerard pitched while Skeesick and Tristan Rudenick got the only Cardinal hits.
