Baseball team drops low scoring game

The Staples Motley baseball team lost a pitcher’s duel as Pillager had two runs on three hits and the Cardinals only managed one run on two hits in a may 12 game.

The Cardinals also lost to Foley 19-4 on May 10.

Against Pillager, Trey Skeesick pitched all seven innings. “Trey pitched a great game and the defense played solid as well,” said Coach Mitch Anderson.

Pillager scored the first run but the Cardinals tied the game on Gavin Smith’s sacrifice that scored Blake Gerard. Pillager scored the game winner with a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning.

Against Foley, the Cardinals fell behind early but came back thanks to a two-run triple by Brady Smith. Foley had another big inning in the sixth to break the game open.

Reid Busker pitched four innings and Gerard pitched two.
