Boys click in hoop win

The Staples-Motley boys basketball team was firing on all cylinders in a 79-47 home win against Aitkin on Dec. 20, but didn’t have enough firepower to overcome Pequot Lakes on the road, falling 85-70 on Dec. 22.

Trey Skeesick was the leading scorer against Aitkin with 21 points and he added nine rebounds. Gavin Smith scored 18, but also had 12 rebounds, seven steals and six assists.

Against Pequot Lakes, the Cardinals were within five at halftime but didn’t stay close in the second half.
