Cardinals hit well in close baseball games

The Staples Motley baseball team won one game out of three competitive games, splitting a doubleheader with Park Rapids on May 3 and falling to Wadena-Deer Creek 13-9 on May 5

Against Park Rapids, Tristan Rudenick had two RBI’s to pull the team within one in the early innings, but miscues led to a big inning for Park Rapids later in the game and the Cardinals lost 10-3. Reid Busker pitched all seven innings.

In game two, Brady Smith led an offensive onslaught with five hits, including a double, four RBI’s and five runs scored.

Smith helped the team take an 8-0 lead early, but Park Rapids closed it to 8-7 late in the game. The Cardinals were able to compose themselves and make quality hits for insurance runs that led to a 13-8 win.

Trey Skeesick pitched a complete game for the win. Blake Gerard had one hit and scored four runs, while Skeesick had three RBI’s.

Staples Motley fell behind early against Wadena-Deer Creek, on costly errors. After giving up six runs in the first, the Cardinals outscored W-DC the rest of the way but it wasn’t enough and they fell short 13-9. Smith pitched six innings and Gerard pitched the seventh. Gerard had three hits and three RBI’s, Rudenick had three hits and Busker had one hit, two walks, two runs and two RBI’s.
