Daly, Uhlman hit homers
Sarah Daly hit a home run in a 17-5 loss to Foley on May 10, and Quinn Uhlman homered to help the Staples Motley softball team beat Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 9-6 on May 12.
At Foley, the Cardinals committed eight errors, which helped lead to the lopsided score. Daly hit a double in addition to her three-run home run. Jenna Trantina and Ashley Crider each had two hits for the Cardinals.
Against B-H/V, Staples Motley again struggled with errors, committing four early on. “The girls never gave up,” said Coach Bruce Onischuk. “There was tremendous support by each member of the team.”
Uhlman’s home run in the third inning gave the team a spark. “Quinn really got everyone going with a blast over the left field fence,” said Onischuk, “I’m guessing the ball traveled between 240 and 250 feet. It was a shot.” The game was at the Staples Motley field, where the deep fences make home runs rare.
Uhlman also had a double and a single in the game. Paige Kittelson helped the team with two hits, including a double.
