Early scores keeps football team on winning streak
The Staples-Motley football team scored three touchdowns in the second quarter and then held on to defeat United North Central 30-14 on Sept. 23. The victory is the third straight win for the Cardinals, running their record to 3-1.
At UNC, Eric Lisson opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 10 yard touchdown run.
Early in the second quarter, Hunter Berggren blasted off a 66 yard touchdown run. On the next posession Mason Rychner threw a 17 yard touchdown pass to Matt Miller. Lisson capped the first half with a 27 yard touchdown run and the Cardinals were ahead 24-0 at halftime.
UNC scored twice in the second half but Berggren put the game away late in the fourth quarter with a 20 yard touchdown run.
Despite the offensive outbust, Staples-Motley failed to convert any of their extra points.
The Cardinals play a big game at Ottertail Central on Friday, Sept. 30.
