Staples golfers rock Birchmont tournament
A large group of Staples golfers traveled to Bemidji July 25-30 to play in the 92nd Annual Birchmont Golf Tournament, many of them bringing home trophies for their performance.
The overall men’s champion was Andrew Israelson, the women’s champion was Emily Israelson, the executive champion was Brad Anderson, and the masters champion was Glen Hasselberg.
The Birchmont is a match play tournament in which golfers play head to head with each hole worth one point.
Andrew Israelson won his champtionship match with the help of two birdies to go up by three points with one to play.
Emily Israelson had three birdies on the front nine and scored two more on the back nine to go up six points with four left to play.
Brad Anderson scored three birdies on the front nine in his championship match, but things got closer on the back nine. He parred the final hole to stay ahead by one point.
Hasselberg played one over par on the front nine to win his match by two points.
Other Staples golfers who placed in the tournament were Cydney Hasselberg, who won the women’s 1st flight consolation championship; Emily Ladd won the women’s 2nd flight consolation championship; and Bo Erholtz, who was the champion in the junior 12 and under third flight.
