Swimmers drop times, place at conference

The Staples-Motley swim team placed fourth in the conference meet against Detroit Lakes, Park Rapids and Perham/New York Mills.

“The team had some great time drops and we couldn’t be prouder of them,” said Coach Amanda Olson. “What a great way to wrap up the regular season.”

The team now has two weeks to get ready for the section tournament in Bemidji on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12.

Team highlights included:

The Medley Relay team of Emily Veronen, Lili Schneider, Autumn Nelsen, and Joelle Bounds, 4th place in 2:12.

Mikayla Williams dropped 7 seconds in her 200 Freestyle for a 3:03, while Cortnie Cottrell dropped 8 seconds for a 3:14.

Schneider was 7th with a new personal record and section qualifying time of 28.88 in the 50 Freestyle.

The 200 Free Relay of Schneider, Veronen, Nelsen, and Bounds was 5th in 2:02.

Veronen was 3rd in the 100 Backstroke with a 1:10.48 for all-conference honorable mention. Adriana Dickey (1:22) and Hannah Hinman (1:24) both set personal bests in their 100 Backstroke.

Schneider was 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke earning her an all-conference honorable mention with a new personal best of 1:17.91.
