Swimmers working hard for final meets
The Staples-Motley girls swim team hosted Detroit Lakes on Oct. 13.
Coach Amanda Olson said the team had hard workouts before the meet and were tired, but had some great performances anyway.
“Seeing how strong the girls swim when their muscles are exhausted makes me excited to see what they can accomplish at our conference meet and section tournament,” said Olson. “From what I can see, the girls are capable of achieving amazing things in the next couple of weeks.”
The team also had a junior high meet on Oct. 17, with swimmers in grades six through eight competing. “I really look forward to seeing what this team can accomplish by the time these 6th graders are seniors,” said Olson.

Varsity highlights:
200 Free: Lili Schneider 3rd, Hannah Hinman personal best 2:40, and Aleeah Halverson 2:46.
200 IM: Emily Veronen first, Autumn Nelsen personal best of 2:51.
50 Free: Emma Gerard 2nd, Joelle Bounds 3rd, personal best of 30.63.
500 Freestyle: Joelle Bounds met section qualifying time of 6:35.
200 Free Relay: two teams with personal best times, (Veronen, Schneider, Gerard, Nelsen) 2:00.94; (Jaden Engebretson, Aleeah Halverson, Bounds, Hannah Hinman) 2:09.
Veronen 3rd in the 100 Backstroke, 1:11, Hannah Hinman personal best of 1:25.
Schneider out touched the competition in the 100 Breaststroke by .09 seconds for the win.
JV highlights:
Cortnie Cottrell dropped 4 seconds in the 200 Freestyle, 3:18.
100 Free: Cassidy Barthel dropped 4 seconds for a personal best of 1:37.19.
50 Free: Adriana Dickey personal best, first place in 31.83.
Junior high meet highlights:

Halverson 3rd in 100 Free, personal best of 1:12.
Robinson 3rd in 100 IM, while Kruchten 4th.
Bounds 2nd in 50 Free, Dickey in 4th, 32.11.
H. Hinman won the 50 Butterfly in 39.42, Robinson 2nd with 45.59, Williams 4th.
Bounds won the 200 Free with a new personal best of 2:31, Kruchten 3rd, Williams 4th.
50 Backstroke, H. Hinman 3rd, personal best of 41.99, Dickey 4th with 42.35.
Halverson 1st in the 50 Breaststroke, Barthel 3rd.
The meet finished with the A, B, & C 200 Free Relays taking 2nd, 3rd, & 4th. A: Dickey, Halverson, H. Hinman, Bounds; B: Gonzalez, Williams, Kruchten, Robinson; C: Jasmer, Carter, Jennissen, Barthel.
