Wrestlers on wrong side of pins in loss

The Staples-Motley wrestling team won six of the 14 weights, but gave up five pins and a forfeit in a 42-26 loss to West Central Area on Dec. 30.

“You can’t do that if you want to beat a good team,” Coach Dave Anglin said about the pins. “We were ahead in a couple of the matches we ended up losing. They came back and they didn’t give up the big points.”

The Cardinals did beat some of the top WCA wrestlers, but only scored two pins of their own, by Alex Erpelding and Kyle Serich.

Anglin said although the score looked bad, the team wrestled well as a whole. “There are some things we can fix, there is a progression toward the end of the season,” he said.
