Will Staples Area Men’s Chorus shave on stage?
The Staples Area Men’s Chorus will take their show on the road traveling to the Clarissa Ballroom Feb. 27 for their fund raising dinner concert The Sing Off!
This year two teams made up of members from the Staples Area Men’s Chorus will compete for bragging rights as the best singers with the audience voting with their donations.
Funds raised at The Sing Off! will help young men from area schools to participate at no charge in Real Men Sing, the choral festival hosted by the SAMC each fall.
The two teams will each perform competing selections including ballads, upbeat and one wild card favorite chosen by the teams. The concert will also feature some songs sung by the entire chours.
To make it easier to attend, this year the first 55 people to purchase tickets at the Kevin Nelson Insurance Agency in Staples can ask to ride a charter bus free from the Staples Community Center to the Clarissa Ballroom.
“Those dinner concert tickets must be purchased at Nelson Insurance as Kevin is compiling the list for the bus,” said Steve Sing, event ticket coordinator.
“We have heard that some are thinking that a Ladies’ Night group might enjoy taking the bus to the Clarissa Ballroom just in time to enjoy the happy hour before the concert. And they won’t have to worry about driving back home, as the bus will bring them back to Staples,” Sing added.
In another creative attempt to get more cash donations, there will be a “Save it or Shave It” donation bucket. Members of the SAMC have been growing their facial hair so that the audience and many of the members’ wives can vote with their Washingtons, Lincolns, Hamiltons, and c’mon maybe even their Benjamins. If the Shave Bucket gets more dollars, the men will Shave It right there at the performance.
“I know my wife will be donating to the Shave Bucket,” said Sing.
The Clarissa Ballroom, located at 19281 Kotter Rd, Clarissa. Social hour at 5 p.m. followed by the dinner concert at 6 p.m.
